Lake Country Chiefs Flag Football offers a fun, engaging, and team-oriented introduction to the sport for young athletes in our community. Designed for our 1st through 4th grade participants, the program focuses on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a non-tackle format. Practices and games are organized within the Chiefs organization, giving players the opportunity to learn fundamental football skills and build friendships in a supportive environment.

What aged players are appropriate for this program?

Lake Country Chiefs Flag Football is designed for athletes in 1st through 4th grade. The program is divided into two divisions to ensure appropriate competition and skill development: a Peewee Division for 1st and 2nd graders and a Junior Division for 3rd and 4th graders.

When

What time of the year does this program run?

The Lake Country Chiefs flag football season runs in the late summer and early fall. Practices begin in early August, with games starting in late August and continuing through September and into early October. The season includes team practices, regular-season games on Saturdays, and wraps up with final matchups in October.

Where

Where are practices and games held?

Flag football practices and games are held at North Lake School athletic fields. For the first couple weeks of the season, all flag football practices take place at North Lake School, and games for both Peewee and Junior divisions are also played there on Saturdays. Practice locations and times may adjust later in the season based on coordination between coaches and families.

Practices

When are practices, and how often are they?

Teams practice once per week during the season. Each practice is generally 60–90 minutes long, depending on the coach and division.

Every team practices at North Lake School for the first few weeks of the season. Head coaches may move their practices to an approved location if the team supports it.

Games

All games are played on Saturdays at North Lake Elementary for both divisions.

PeeWee Division (1st–2nd Grade)

  • Games begin at 8:15 AM
  • Players should arrive 15–20 minutes early for warm-ups
  • Games consist of two 20-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime

Junior Division (3rd–4th Grade)

  • Games begin at 9:45 AM
  • Players should arrive 15–20 minutes early for warm-ups
  • Games consist of two 25-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime

Uniforms & Equipment

The Lake Country Chiefs Flag Football Program provides each registered player with a reversible game jersey and a mouth guard. Mouth guards are required to be worn at all practices and games.

Additional mouth guards are available for purchase on game days at the concession stand. Baseball hats, sunglasses, and jewelry are not permitted during practices or games.

Head coaches will be provided with a team equipment bag that includes flags, footballs, cones, a kicking tee, referee shirts, whistles, and a basic first aid kit.

How are teams formed?

Teams are formed based on coach availability, school they attend, grade level balance, size considerations, and sibling placement when possible. We do not allow requests.

Are volunteers required?

Yes. The program operates as a 100% volunteer organization. Families who did not select the volunteer buyout option during registration are required to volunteer. Opportunities include concession stand support, referees, photographers, team managers, and assistant coaches.

What happens if there is bad weather?

In the event of inclement weather, families should check the Lake Country Chiefs website and official social media channels for updates regarding practice or game status.

What is the program’s approach to sportsmanship and behavior?

Good sportsmanship, positive cheering, and respectful conduct are expected from players, coaches, parents, and spectators at all times. Unsportsmanlike behavior may result in disciplinary action, including removal from games or the program.

2026 Season

Lake Country Chiefs Flag Football offers a fun, safe, and developmental football experience for 1st–4th graders. With separate divisions for PeeWee (1st–2nd grade) and Juniors (3rd–4th grade), players learn the fundamentals of the game, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a non-contact environment. All teams are part of the Chiefs family and compete against one another in an in-house league from early August through mid-October.
